A Division Of Spaces

A Division Of Spaces was shown in Joshua Tree, California at Midnight Oil Gallery in February of 2019. This set of drawings shown in tandem with works from Visions Of Indigo, was inspired by a past trip to Jerusalem. While I was there, I found harsh contrasts in scenery, culture, ways of thinking, and heavily segregated neighborhoods. Religion, traditions, clothing, language, and rituals were all smashed together into a melting pot of extreme tension but also quilted beauty. A wall snaked in and out of this landscape, separating one people from another, which played a large role in all three of these illustrations. By depicting the highly contrasted scenery and atmosphere, my focus was on the differences that are separating these people, but also what aspects of humanity bring them together.
